Characterized by a very thin tip (the part of the reed that vibrates on the lip), but supported and balanced by a very robust heel (the back part of the reed that is held by the ligature).
This combination allows the musician to produce an extremely pure sound. Aesthetically, Traditional reeds are recognizable by their linear tip cut, which differs from other models that have more rounded edges. Vandoren Traditional clarinet reeds are the most widely used by professional musicians. Traditional reeds are suitable for all musical styles.
Their main acoustic qualities are:
• Excellent response in all registers, also allowing for pianissimo attacks of high notes.
• High flexibility that allows for legato or staccato playing over wide intervals.
The reeds are made from cane, which is particularly sensitive to changes in humidity. Vandoren Traditional reeds are now individually packaged. The so-called Flow Packs ensure a reed with stable hydration.
